Desert city of Dubai floods as UAE hit by heaviest rainfall in 75 years

Flew into Dubai for the first time on Monday night and as luck would have it this **** happens. Flight back has been delayed numerous times and now only planned to fly back tomorrow night as this busy airport is still partially flooded - an almost 48hr delay.

You don't appreciate the insane amount of disruptions and knock on effects this has on airlines and their crew until you are part of it. Glad reorganising all this is not my job.

Yeah, I was stuck in the UK during the big SAA strike (along with a real pain in the ass manager) back in the day; not fun.

Dubai's flood solution, built by slaves

you know the rulers are soon gonna be thinking how do we burn money while we have it,
I mean as if a Indoor ski resort in the middle of the desert wasn't Dumb and wasteful enough.
a gigantic palm shaped construction project made of Sand, visible from space,

this certainly seems like just what they will think of next.

What slaves?

Should be fine by then.
Lol, famous last words.

Scheduled to depart at 18:40... last update says we will depart at 23:15.

The scary part is the incoming flight (DXB to DUR) hasn't taken off yet... and is scheduled to do so at 19:00... Thats a 9-hour delay on the incoming side. We'll probably only leave at 01:10 if that's the case.

Update on the update... says we will now depart at 02:15 instead of 23:15... This is based on the incoming plane leaving at 17:00... but the incoming plane still hasn't departed.

Yeah I underestimated the cluster**** going on there at the moment. We finally departed 4 hrs after the delayed schedule. After boarding all the pax and ready to go we had to wait 1 hr just to get a push back tug!

The terminal was still overcrowded last night with stuck passengers sitting everywhere on the ground. They are massively understaffed in all departments and it will probably take a few more days to return to normal.

It is illegal to post pictures of storms online, authorities in the United Arab Emirates have warned.

Posting negative images or rumours about the recent flooding could be punished under the country's cybercrime laws, the interior ministry said.

Damaging the country's reputation online is punishable imprisonment and a fine of up to 1m Emirati Dirhams (£189,500), the International Business Times reported.

this is another thing about the UAE, its NOT a DEMOCRACY, its a Monarchy, and if you fall foul of those laws, you are hauled away to jail in that flashy G wagon police idiot U v.

if you are apostate and don't believe in a god, jail for you, or something like that, somebody correct me of their draconian laws.

alcohol is illegal, apart from certain hotels, not sure what they think about gay people, but dont remember a gay pride parade in Dubai.

yes Wasteful, how much energy does it use?, how much pollution does it generate, you literally need to run freezers 24/7 to keep snow in the desert snow and not slush.
dont get me wrong, pretty cool, you can go from sand to snow so easily, but part of me thinks a tourist attraction like this is just a bit over the top,

same with Palm jumeria, and the world Island chain, wasteful eyesores that serve no purpose other than to be seen and NOT lived in.
The only good thing about the snow is it cools you down on a hot day. Which is everyday. But I completely agree with the other things you mentioned.
