Paypal - Purchasing using Credit/Debit Card

I've been using Paypal to buy stuff for years, using my debit/credit card (Capitec). This now seems to have stopped working. I queried this with Capitec and they said they don't support Paypal transactions any more (which sounds like BS to me...).

So I tried going the FNB way, hoping that I would be able to top-up my Paypal account, which would have been OK for me too. Only to find that top-up is only available to FNB account holders (apparently this is stated in the T&C's... WTF!). Note: I don't want to withdraw any money from Paypal, only purchase...

Any non-FNB customers out there that *are* actually making purchases via Paypal using your debit/credit cards?

Funny thing though, I was able to make one purchase this morning using my Capitec card with no issues, and when I tried again a couple of hours later, the transaction was declined again...

You shouldve been with FNB Regardless. Why wont you bank with the best bank?

Def not based on my interactions over the last week; shoddy to say the least.

With Standard and works fine.

Capitec CC and Paypal still works fine here. Just made a $1 purchase.

Strange. I can still use my Discovery cheque account to make payments, as well as my Discovery credit card. Do you have sufficient funds in your account for the transaction? The amount, conversion rate and the admin fees associated with it?

You only need an FNB profile if you want to receive money using Paypal. If you're paying for stuff with a debit/credit card via Paypal then it doesn't matter who you bank with, any valid Visa or Mastercard should work just fine.

Thanks all for the quick reponse. Yeah no issues with funding... this morning I made a R3K purchase via Capitec no issue, 2 hrs later, a R100 purchase gets the error. And the R3K was declined 2 weeks ago in the same way as today's R100.

At least I know I am it works for others (including Capitec).

I'm with ABSA, don't have any issues with PayPal using my CC.

Not working for me either, have trried a few times over the past 3 weeks. I emailed them and the response I got was:

"Kindly note that Capitec does not support the foreign third party wallet platform.
We do apologize for any inconvenience and frustration caused."

I then asked to be pointed to official communication about this and whether its permament, but that seems to have disappeared into a black hole.

Have you had any further successful payments since you last posted?

Having the same problem since few weeks ago with African bank. Capitec had insufficient funds. Now I have Capitec sorted out but it now gives the same error with a virtual card. Bogus excuse that Capitec doesn't support Paypal. Hordes of people have complained over the years if you do a google search but Paypal just shrugs it off telling you to use a different card or try again later. Many people are now jumping ship to alternatives but I haven't found anything that works with fundraising for South Africa so I've now stopped everything rather than irritate people.
