Don't expect DStv miracles if Canal+ takeover succeeds

DStv customers hoping for big product revamps if Canal+'s acquisition of MultiChoice succeeds should curb their enthusiasm.

An independent board is currently considering the French broadcasting giant's offer to acquire all of MultiChoice's outstanding shares at R125 each, up from a previously declined offer of R105 per share.

I wasn't expecting any miracles but a merger there's ROK and Africa Magic and Canal+ Sport and SuperSport. Will those just co-exist same with Dstv and Canal+ Afrique?

It’s about money, not about content. It’s about shareholder value and shareholders wanting money
It's not like the existing (private) shareholders are getting anything at the moment: at best a bit of money when the deal goes through.

Well we didn't get much from the so called Peacock thing :(
30% stake for Peacock which is not much really perhaps if it was 40% then maybe. I believe they handle the technical aspects I mean MultiChoice would have acquired their content without NBCUniversal's stake.

But I wanted Peacock stuff :-( and freaking Amazon pulled all the stuff that Peacock has

On top Showmax not being viewable outside of Africa due to that stake and the fact that NBCUniversal has deals with other broadcasters.
Is there any way to bypass the Showmax restriction (I.e. not being viewable outside Africa)?

But will they add more Euro channels? Surely Canal+ has access to those?
Yes, in Ethiopia they offer 4 FilmBox channels not sure if those will be on DStv seeing as Canal+ would have to merge packages. All I know is that the entertainment varies in each country as the main African feed offers M-Net Movies (no Euros) so we'll have to see what happens if it goes through.

Their packages are complicated one is African tailored which is where SuperSport and M-Net Movies reside with the Ethopian foreign driven with other DStv channels like Star Life and KIX.

Some 4K sport would be nice s'il vous plaît.
From what Thinus implies MultiChoice is more of a peace prize to Canal+ so the only new developments would be what Canal+ has on offer for their consumers. I just don't think them owning MultiChoice is the only development consumers should await for perhaps more channel closures as 11 TV channels had already exited DStv and cutbacks are usually the norm.

I always find it funny when a company can no longer derive value from a market so they move into the next one as if it's not a stop-gap and the same thing won't happen again.
