Zando's plan to take on Shein and Temu in South Africa

Online clothing retailer Zando has announced an international online shopping division called Zando Global to compete against Chinese e-commerce players Temu and Shein.

“With the rise of Shein and Temu, South African consumers have often found themselves hesitant to order internationally due to concerns about product quality, delivery reliability, and returns processes,” Zando states.

Oh well, they're repeating what Temu and Shein are doing but they are adding additional layer of cost (inspection at Zando warehouse). What happens if the items are faulty as usual with Shein and Temu? Who carries that liability?

Good Question. Can't say its a pivot from Zando but they trying to match them with the quality assurance aspect. I'm not sure that it is enough because the difference here is the pricepoint. More online retailers more competition so its a win for us consumers.

Import fees are a concern for me, not knowing upfront what it will be.

Is there a way to find out before making the purchase on temu.

Looks like clothing attracts a lot of import duties compared to other items from what I have observed.

Ah, any kind of kak to shine some negativity on Shein and Temu. Lmao.

Import duty on clothes of a cotton or wool nature can be as high as 45% depending on where it’s imported from. UK/EU and EFTA being the least levied at 27% and 20% respectively. The rest of the world incur the general rate of 45%. SADC imports incur no duty.

That said import duty is dependent on the tariff, value and obviously the origin of the goods.

What is this bs??
Zando is just drop shipping there's nothing local or specially inspected about what they are offering.
They are even using Buffalo Logistics for deliveries, just like Shein and Temu, difference is they are expecting customers ID numbers so 3 orders and people will need an importers code and in doing that I’m assuming they are actually going to collect full duties and price themselves right out of the market.

I wonder what idiot marketing "guru" at Zando thought this one up
