Cheapest laptops in South Africa — ten options under R5,000

South Africans looking for a basic laptop to send emails, work, or browse the web can get one for as little as R2,999.

MyBroadband looked for the cheapest laptops available in the country and found 10 options under R5,000.

The most affordable notebook we found was a 14.1-inch Proline model with an Intel Celeron N4020 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of SSD storage for R2,999 from Game.

The Intel Celeron N4020 chip features in several of the laptops listed. It comes with an integrated Intel UHD Graphics 600 GPU.

For R200 more than the entry-level model’s price, South Africans can get the 11.6-inch Evolve Maestro laptop with an Intel Celeron N3450, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of flash storage on Takealot.

It also sells sells an 11.6-inch Packard Bell McLaren-C laptop for R3,299. It packs an Intel Celeron N4020 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of flash storage.

It should be noted that most of the laptops listed feature 720p (HD Ready) displays, with only two options offering the higher 1080p (Full HD) resolution.

These are the 14-inch RCT May 2 and the MW14Q1C-series RCT laptops, both of which are available from Dreamware Tech for R3,729.

The two laptops have very little difference, with the only variance being the storage configuration.

The RCT May 2 packs an Intel Core i3-1005G1 processor, 4GB of DDR3L RAM, and a 128GB NVMe SSD.

The RCT MW14Q1C features similar RAM and processor specs. However, it packs a 500GB 2.5-inch SSD.
