Sony’s revised compact PlayStation 5 gaming console, informally dubbed the PS5 Slim, is now available to buy in South Africa.
Similar to the original PS5, the Slim has two variants — a regular disc drive-fitted model and a digital-only model.
The consoles share most of the same internal hardware as their predecessors, so performance should be similar.
The main changes are in design, with both consoles featuring four removable side panels instead of the two on the original versions.
They are also 30% smaller, while the standard PS5 Slim weighs 18% less than the original version and the digital edition 24% less than the original disc-less model.
The digital-only model also supports the addition of a disc drive after purchase.
One downside to the new consoles is that they no longer come with a stand for adjusting between horizontal and vertical orientation.
Instead, the included stand will only support horizontal placement, while the vertical stand must be bought separately.
The prices of the standalone Slim consoles match the recommended retail pricing of the original PS5.
The digital-only version with one controller is priced at R11,999, while the disc drive-fitted Slim model will set you back R13,999.
There are also various PS5 Slim bundles that add additional accessories at a discount compared to buying them separately.

Those who have no issues with the design, size, and weight of the original PS5 will find this model selling for substantially less than the Slim versions on multiple sites.
Two of the best deals we could find were the PS5 Digital with one controller going for R9,499 from Kloppers or R10,999 from MHC World.
