Rain increases prices for uncapped 4G services

Rain has notified customers that the prices of their grandfathered uncapped 4G services will increase on their May billing date.

“In line with inflation, we are updating our prices,” the operator told subscribers.

Contacted for comment, a Rain spokesperson said that the average price increase across these plans is 6.8%.

Rain’s 19 hours off-peak 4G for any device package will increase by over 7.5% from R265 to R285 per month.

This plan offers existing subscribers uncapped connectivity for 19 hours per day, from 23:00 to 18:00.

Similarly, Rain’s regular 4G for any device product will get a 7.2% price increase from R499 to R535 per month.

Its 4G phones-only service will get a 6.27% increase from R319 to R339 per month.

Rain stopped selling these products in May last year when it launched a fully-fledged national mobile network with its Rain One product suite.

With its network fully supporting voice calls and SMS messaging, Rain launched a combination product offering fixed 5G and two mobile 4G SIMs starting at R559 monthly.

These Rain One (stylised rainOne) packages let subscribers customise their fixed 5G speeds and select how much data, minutes, and SMS messages the two mobile SIMs come with.

In November, Rain launched a new “skinnable” 5G router with AX3600 Wi-Fi support and increased the base price of Rain One to R595 per month.

The company has confirmed its Rain One prices will not increase in May.

“In terms of mobile, top-up gigs, minutes, and SMS — [these] remain at the current prices, as do level-ups and speed-ups,” Rain said.
