FNB offers the most affordable online licence disk renewal service in South Africa, with its recently announced promotion making it cheaper than the National Traffic Information System’s (Natis’) online portal.
The bank announced the promotion on 12 March 2024, revealing that it had slashed its service price by R30 until 30 June 2024.
FNB usually charges R99 for the service, including delivery, which was on par with what Natis charged.
The service is only available to FNB customers, who can access it through the bank’s mobile app after loading the vehicle details on the nav»Car platform.
They can then pay for the licence disc renewal in-app, using their bank account, credit card, or eBucks.
“This service from FNB is offered in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Corporation, with no paperwork, if you are the registered owner of the vehicle,” says FNB.
It should be noted that the R69 promo price and the R99 usual price only cover the service and delivery fees. The actual vehicle licencing cost varies depending on your vehicle’s weight and the province of registration.
In another shake-up in the licence disc renewal space, Pick n Pay shut down its service.
The retailer initially charged a R345 service fee and a R99.99 delivery fee, for a total of R444.99.
It then reduced the service fee to R250, while keeping the delivery fee the same, meaning customers paid R349.99 to use the service. A further R20 price cut followed at a later stage.
However, despite the price cuts, the retailer remained the most expensive provider offering online licence disc renewals.
Currently, Disky is the most expensive. It charges R239, comprising a R169 admin fee and R70 delivery fee.
After FNB, Natis’ online service is the most affordable, with the government-owned platform only charging a R99 delivery fee.
The South African Post Office’s service is R48 more expensive. The total price of R147 comprises a R72 admin fee and a R75 delivery charge.
PayCity charges R166.75 for its licence disc renewal service, which is available in Gauteng, Cape Town’s metro, Free State, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and the North West Province.
Shoprite Money Market account holders can renew their vehicle licence disc for R185, comprising a R110.25 service fee and R74.75 for delivery.
Renewonline asks R215 for disc renewals, which includes a R100 admin fee and R115 delivery charge. Renewonline’s service is available to motorists nationwide.
It should be noted that Spar also offers a vehicle licence disc renewal service. However, as it requires customers to visit specific stores, we didn’t include it in the comparison.
