Apple has announced that its World Wide Developers Conference will be held online on 10–14 June 2024 — while hinting at a major artificial intelligence (AI) announcement.
In a Twitter/X post, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, Greg Joswiak said the event will be “Absolutely Incredible”.
Joswiak’s unorthodox use of capital letters has led to speculation that the company’s announcements will focus on AI.
This follows a report that the tech giant has been negotiating to use Google’s Gemini in its iOS 18 update.
Google is the creator of Android, Apple’s biggest competitor in mobile operating systems.
Apple’s major smartphone brand competitor, Samsung, recently launched a suite of large language model-based AI tools for its flagship Samsung Galaxy S24 range.
Samsung recently announced that an update will bring these AI features to another nine devices.
At WWDC 2024, Apple will showcase the latest advancements in iOS, iPadOS, macOS, WacthOS and visonOS to help developers enhance their apps and games.
“WWDC is all about sharing new ideas and providing our amazing developers with innovative tools and resources to help them make something even more wonderful,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations.
Although the event is online, there will be a special in-person event at Apple Park on the opening day.
The event will be accessible via the Apple Developer app, the Apple Developer Website, and YouTube.
