Best smartphone contracts under R500 a month

South African residents looking for a new smartphone can choose from powerful devices with as much as 8GB of data for under R500 per month on a two-year contract.

MyBroadband compared some of the best 24-month smartphone contracts available from Cell C, MTN, Telkom, and Vodacom for under R500 monthly.

We focused on data-centric packages and found several options from brands like Huawei, Honor, Nothing, Samsung, RealMe, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo.

Data-hungry customers will likely prefer the options from MTN and Telkom, as they offer the largest data allocations in the price range.

MTN sells the RealMe C67 256GB and Samsung Galaxy A35 128GB on its Mega Gigs S plan for R479 per month over two years.

The Mega Gigs S package includes 2GB of anytime data, 1GB of social data, and 1GB of video streaming data.

Telkom sells the Huawei Nova Y71 128GB on its FlexOn 8 plan for R489 per month over two years.

The package provides customers with 8GB of anytime data, 200 all-network minutes, 3,000 on-network minutes, and 3,000 SMSes.

Data-hungry customers can also get the Honor X8A 128GB and Huawei Nova 11i 128GB with 4GB of anytime data per month on Telkom’s FlexOn 4 plan.

The plan also provides 100 all-network minutes, 750 on-network minutes, and 750 SMSes.

The Honor X8A 128GB is available on the FlexOn 4 plan for R449 monthly, while the Huawei is priced at R499 monthly.

Cell C’s Elevate 1 plan allocates customers 512MB of anytime data and 512MB of social data. Its big brother, Elevate 2, offers 1.5GB of anytime data and 1.5GB of social data.

The operator sells the RealMe C55 256GB on its Elevate 2 plan for R449 per month.

South Africans can also grab the Samsung Galaxy A54 256GB or Vivo V25e 128GB on the same plan for R499 monthly.

Vodacom’s plans in the price range offer the lowest data allocations of the lot.

It sells the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G 128GB on its RED Core 1.2GB plan for R489 per month.

The RED Core 1.2GB plan allocates 1.2GB of anytime data, 1.2GB of Night Owl data, 100 minutes, and 150 SMSes per month.
