FNB slashes car licence disc renewal fee — with a catch

FNB has reduced its car licence disc renewal fee from R99 to R69, but the new price will only be available until 30 June 2024.

The promotional R30 reduction follows a previous price cut in 2023 when the bank dropped its combined service and delivery fee for the service from R199 to R99.

That change had already made FNB’s service the cheapest of major providers in South Africa, on par with the National Traffic Information System’s online portal.

FNB customers can use the bank’s mobile app to renew their licence discs after loading their car onto the nav»Car platform and pay for the service using in-app using their bank account, credit card, or eBucks.

“This service from FNB is offered in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Corporation, with no paperwork, if you are the registered owner of the vehicle,” FNB said.

The bank will also reward customers with R99 worth of eBucks for a licence disc renewal and provide a no-obligation car insurance quote from FNB Insurance.

FNB nav» CEO Jolandé Duvenage said the bank’s renewal service continued to grow in popularity.

Over 1 million new vehicles were uploaded to FNB’s over the past 12 months, of which 107,000 performed licence disc renewals through FNB.

The platform also allows customers to get free vehicle value estimates, pay traffic fines, and take up comprehensive insurance and value-added products including stretch and dent protection and extended warranties.
