Best console gaming deals in South Africa

South African gamers can get into current-generation console gaming for as little as R6,999 with an Xbox Series S console or R9,999 for a beastly Xbox Series X bundle.

However, those holding out for a PlayStation 5 console will have to fork out at least R10,499, a MyBroadband analysis has revealed.

MyBroadband looked for the best console gaming deals available in South Africa, limiting ourselves to the current generation of Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo consoles.

We also included bundled deals with extra controllers, games, and other peripherals.

Arguably, the best deal available is for the Xbox Series X, with an extra Carbon Black Controller, and Forza Horizon 5 Premium for R9,999 from Takealot. However, this is a limited-time Daily Deal at the retailer.

The Xbox Series X typically retails for R11,500 to R12,000 for the console and one controller. The bundle from Takealot is at least R1,500 cheaper and gives gamers access to all Forza Horizon 5 downloadable content, which they would otherwise have to pay for.

The Xbox Series X console features 1TB of storage and can run select titles in 4K resolution at 120 frames per second.

However, those looking for a more affordable entry point into console gaming can opt for the lower-specced Xbox Series S. Alternatively, Nintendo’s Switch OLED series is a great option for those who want to game on the move.

The most affordable Xbox Series S deal we found costs R6,999 at Game4U. The deal is for the base package, which includes the console, power cable, HDMI, and one controller.

Takealot sells the Xbox Series S console with an additional controller for R8,590.

Those who prefer an affordable and portable gaming experience can grab the Nintendo Switch OLED in Glacier White for R8,490 or Neon Red and Blue for R8,496, both from Takealot.

Sony PlayStation fans will have to fork out more for one of its current-generation consoles, with the cheapest being the digital edition with one controller for R10,499 from Hirsch’s Home Store.

They can get the same console with an additional controller from Incredible for R11,499.

However, some PlayStation fans may have older-generation games lying around that they’d still like to play. This will require the PlayStation 5 Disc Edition.

The cheapest PlayStation 5 Disc Edition deal we found costs R12,999 at Makro. It comes with just one controller. Everyshop sells the same console with an extra controller for R13,799.

We also included a PlayStation 5 bundle with a PlayStation headset, a controller charging dock, three games, and an extra controller.

Takealot sells the deal for R19,999, and the included games are Deathloop, Mortal Kombat II Ultimate, and Resident Evil: Village.

All of the PlayStation consoles listed feature 1TB of rated storage and can run select titles in 4K resolution at 120 frames per second.
