Setting up the Deco Voice

Setting up the 3-piece Deco Voice Wi-Fi mesh system was simple, thanks to the dedicated Deco smartphone app.

We also found it convenient that you only need to calibrate the unit that connects directly to your ONT or primary router. In contrast, the other units automatically connect to the first unit when powered up.

Users can use the Deco app to edit their network settings — and one of our favourite features is that you can set certain actions to trigger when specific conditions are met.

For example, you can be notified when a particular device connects to your Deco Voice mesh system during a specific period. This is ideal for parents wanting to make sure their children are doing their homework rather than playing video games.

We tested various triggers during our time with the system and found they worked seamlessly every time.

Performance

The Deco Voice X20’s Wi-Fi mesh system can cover up to 540 square metres flawlessly and supports up to 150 connected devices.

It is also compatible with Wi-Fi 6 — offering speeds of up to 1,201Mbps and 574Mbps on its 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands, respectively.

While downloading large files, we found that speeds remained fast and the signal remained strong — no matter where we were in our extensive test environment — a 700 square metre office.

If you want to augment the wireless capabilities, each of the X20 units features two Gigabit Ethernet ports for lightning-fast wired speeds to your devices.

Additional features

The Deco Voice X20 offers other cool features that improve your user experience, such as built-in smart speakers’ support for Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant.

We found the X20’s Wi-Fi mesh units could pick up voice commands from up to 10 meters away – including around corners and across a busy office.

This makes it easy to use your voice to turn off your lights in your smart home, alert your family that dinner is ready, or play your favourite tunes.

This impressive functionality is then protected by TP-Link HomeShield, which provides reliable IoT protection, robust parental controls, and comprehensive security reports.
